Lakeshore Records will release the DEBUG – Original Motion Picture Soundtrack digitally on February 24th and on CD March 10, 2015. The album features original music by Timothy Williams (WALKING WITH THE ENEMY, RED SKY).

“DEBUG is a sci-fi horror set on a prison ship in space,” said Williams. “I knew that the score was going to be primarily electronic, but I loved the idea of using an orchestra for its organic quality, and then mutilating the pristine recordings, through reversing, pitch shifting, filtering, unusual delays and falling reverbs. David Hewlett [director] and I have been friends since we were about 5 years old! So when I suggested 'reversed orchestra' for some of the score with electronics and 'processed brass', he didn't do what some directors might do, which is fire me on the spot!”

'One day I hope to make a movie as good as Tim's soundtrack!' joked the film’s writer/director David Hewlett. 'Tim loves what he does and he's extraordinary at it. How he manages to turn my directing, a vague, awkward fumbling for words, into these masterpieces is a mystery to me. Among Tim's talent is he understands that in the end, it's all about what's happening (or not) in the scene.'

Timothy Williams is a multi-award winning composer and orchestrator for film, television, video games and theater. His films have earned over 58 awards. Born in England and raised in Canada, Williams is a trained pianist. He studied music at the Toronto Conservatory of Music and the Victoria Conservatory of Music. Williams relocated to England to continue further studies at the National Film and Television School, and worked at the BBC as an on-staff orchestrator. He would return to Canada a few years later to write the musical NAPOLEON, which opened at the Elgin Theatre in Toronto in 1994, and in London’s West End in 2000.

Eventually Williams’ work would take him to Los Angeles. He has written music for award-winning films including THE MULBERRY TREE, THE BUTTERFLY CIRCUS, HISTORY OF FUTURE FOLK and LUTEFISK WARS. He scored the Tom Hanks produced documentary BEYOND ALL BOUNDARIES . He has written additional music for GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY, 300, SUCKER PUNCH, WATCHMEN, CONAN THE BARBARIAN, THE BLACK FREIGHTER, SHARK NIGHT 3D and DOOMSDAY. As an orchestrator, Tim has orchestrated over 63 films, over 40 episodes of TV and 8 Video Games for composers including Alan Menken, Stephen Schwartz, Tyler Bates, Trent Reznor, Bruce Broughton, Robert Duncan, David Sardy and John Kavanagh. Williams’ recent soundrack releases include RED SKY and WALKING WITH THE ENEMY, both released by Lakeshore Records.

DEBUG is about six young computer hackers sent to work on a derelict space freighter, who are forced to match wits with a vengeful artificial intelligence that would kill to be human.

“It is rare that you get the opportunity to play around and take chances with a score! I appreciate David giving me the luxury to do that,” said Williams. “Writing reversed orchestra, meant scoring sections and themes forward, then orchestrating back to front which was mind numbing! Once it was recorded, I then reversed it and flew it into the sessions.”

“The final effect was way more subtle than I expected, but still really interesting,” Williams continued. “My favorite effects were actually the brass stabs backwards. My engineer, Wolfgang Matthes, did an incredible job of smoothing it all at the end, to try to keep it cohesive.”
